As 2025 comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the challenges and opportunities that shaped this year. Rapid developments in national and global policies have significantly impacted food and nutrition, public health, and the culinary arts. While these changes have presented obstacles, they have also opened doors for meaningful involvement—whether through policy advocacy, community volunteerism, research, program planning, or innovation in these fields.

Specific Trends in Nutrition and Wellness:
Looking ahead to 2026, there are several exciting trends in nutrition and wellness. This year, I’ll focus on two key movements that are gaining momentum:
1. Food as Medicine
The "Food as Medicine" movement is transforming how we approach health and nutrition. This concept involves integrating produce boxes and medically tailored meals into treatment plans for managing conditions like blood sugar and weight. Healthcare teams are increasingly prescribing medical nutrition solutions, such as CSA (consumer-supported agriculture) boxes or medically tailored produce boxes, as part of their care strategies. Whether you’re exploring a CSA box or a medical food box, there’s an option to suit your needs!
2. Functional Nutrition Enhancements
Another growing trend is the collaboration between chefs and the medical field to promote functional nutrition. This involves encouraging the use of conventional foods that offer specific health benefits. These partnerships are creating opportunities to improve community health by providing resources and programs that integrate nutrition into healthcare. Additionally, restaurants are finding innovative ways to offer meals that are both satisfying and nutritious.

Coming Next Month:
Beyond these trends, this blog will continue to explore topics in food, nutrition, public health, and the culinary arts. I’ll also share updates on our community garden and feature a recipe of the month. Be sure to check back regularly for the latest news and insights. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome!
